FNCCC 9 – Sunny Anderson – Curry Pork Burgers and Sweet n Smokey Onion Rings

I’ve totally been slacking on updating the blog for a while.  Here’s my attempt at catching up!

This week, I made something just about as simple as you can get — burgers and rings.  While the concept of the meal is super simple, the flavors were anything but.

Firstly, the burgers are not your ordinary slap-a-beef-patty-on-the-griddle burger.  Sunny’s recipe for Curry Pork Burgers calls for curry powder, ground coriander, cayenne pepper, green onions, and garlic to be mixed in to ground pork.  Those are some heavy-hitter flavors!  The burgers had great flavor, but the pork was a little bit too lean to make a really juicy burger.  I wasn’t crazy about them.  I’d rather just stick with my usual beef burgers and save the pork for those fabulous meatballs from a few weeks ago.

The onion rings, on the other hand, were fantastic.  Sunny includes smoked paprika in the batter for her Sweet n Smokey Onion rings.  It really gave the rings a nice flavor that complimented the burgers well.  Unfortunately, the batter was a little thick, and I ended up with rings that just didn’t get crispy.  Next time I make these, I will probably thin the batter out with a little more buttermilk so the rings will be sure to get nice and crispy.
